Change yourself into who you really are Not the person you think you should be Your current state is so much more real Than projected imagery You can’t water a plastic tree Opinions change so maybe They don’t really matter. Like or love you ask me Well I prefer the latter Cause only love will sacrifice Chorus Seek the light that can Blind the darkness within Seek the love that’s deeper than your skin And let it overflow V2: Joy is a stronger drink than happiness I’ve found it’s much more fulfilling These times can make you question why you said God I am willing They say it’s a fight to the death They say it’s a race to the finish Stick it out while you can You might even win it But at least You’re never alone
2.
I don't wanna be remembered by this song If I don't declare what's real As I embrace my mistakes and failures Let imperfection break the seal of grace Let it flow into my heart I am like a vulture for pleasure Everything I consume is dead. I cannot keep living in this state Wake me up and clear my head. Chorus I want to shout from the highest mountains I want to climb the tallest trees I am not ready to slow down yet There’s still too much oxygen to breathe Verse 2: Let apathy be a four letter word That I can’t bring myself to say As passion flows from the purest fountain Let me drink til I am full Let it flow through my veins Chorus I want to shout from the highest mountains I want to climb the tallest trees I am not ready to slow down yet There’s still too much oxygen to breathe Bridge: I’m alive, I’m alive, I admit I’m a mess I will live, I will live, with no time for regrets I’m alive, I’m alive, I admit I’m a mess I will live, I will live, with no time for regrets
3.
V1: You keep it consistent I will improvise You won’t give me a straight signal So I’ll go by the smile and your eyes Chorus: Maybe you’re saying let’s be friends I hope it’s so much more We won’t know that answer Til we both walk towards that door. V2: I’ve known much rejection I’ve learned from this defeat. Every hour an inspiration And a new soul mate to meet
4.
Transparency 04:04
If I could understand the meaning of the sunrise It would show me its beauty and reveal all the secrets I try to hide It would melt away all the words that were never true enough Illuminate the half of my heart that struggles to be full of love Chorus: Transparency is a risk I’ve refused to take All these years If it’s glass I must break Shatter into pieces all my fears Verse 2: The incomparable brilliance of the skyline at sunset It makes me feel alive, an emotion I’ll soon not forget It signifies the closing of the day and propels into the night But our hearts are resurged with the morning light. Chorus: Transparency is a risk I’ve refused to take All these years If it’s glass I must break Shatter into pieces all my fears
5.
V1: You can't remain in that state for too long You'll forget your vision, you'll ruin your song Such beautiful notes that you arranged With such gusto, you gladly sang Don't stop the chorus for just one mistake Chorus: Don’t look back You can’t discover the future if you’re obsessed with the past Don’t look back Why’d you ever think you’d have to live life like that? V2: You've stumbled over your words and watched them fall Echoes of failure, they bounce against the wall As your eyes fill with tears, You hear a voice that calms your fears And lets you know that redemption is near. Don’t look back You can’t discover the future if you’re obsessed with the past Don’t look back Why’d you ever think you’d have to live life like that? Bridge In the quiet we’re overwhelmed by a hope that will pull us through Good to know we’re not by ourselves There’s more than just me and you
6.
Hope is most apparent in the middle of the storm Love can be the clearest even when your heart has just been torn God speaks the loudest even when the darkness covers the light But good devours evil like the morning swallows the night Chorus: Hold fast to your convictions Know what you believe These doubts will leave you with battle scars But love will set you free Yes, love will set you free V2: Sometimes we can’t help but say we don’t know If we put God in a box, our faith’s too stiff to grow Lord resurrect my heart and take it back. Without you, my soul is so prone to attack Chorus: Hold fast to your convictions Know what you believe These doubts will leave you with battle scars But joy will set you free Let joy be the song that you sing Bridge: Don’t give up Don’t give up Don’t give up Don’t give up Chorus: Hold fast to your convictions Know what you believe These doubts will leave you with battle scars But grace will set you free Let grace be the air that you breathe
7.
V1:
Let Carpe Diem influence my actions Seize the day, seize the day Don’t want regret to be my sole reaction Don’t delay, don’t delay Chorus What matters most is that we live What matters most is that we’re willing To give our all today Today Don’t wanna hear the sorrow In tomorrow’s song V2: Toeing the line between who I am and Who I want to be, who I wanna be I’ll leave this ground of sinking sand Now I’m running free, now I’m running free Chorus What matters most is that we live What matters most is that we’re willing To give our all today Today Don’t wanna hear the sorrow In tomorrow’s song V3: I have failed more than twice More like a million times, more like a million times But I know a love that has paid the price There is hope we can find, there is hope we can find Chorus What matters most is that we live What matters most is that we’re willing To give our all today Today Don’t wanna hear the sorrow In tomorrow Don’t wanna hear the sorrow In tomorrow Don’t wanna hear the sorrow In tomorrow’s song
8.
V1: Please don’t let escape anymore from all the promises I put forth I’m tired of never following through Well, I have big dreams But they always seem So much better in my head or on paper Chorus: I don’t wanna die Knowing I didn’t fight Or even try to become The man I need to be And I know there’s grace For all these mistakes I need to change It’s imperative I do V2: So tell me what is passion Is it thought or is it action? Maybe it’s both Yeah it’s gotta be both Hits you like a bolt of lightning To the point you’re almost crying But you gotta stand up You gotta move Chorus: I don’t wanna die Knowing I didn’t fight Or even try to become The man I need to be And I know there’s grace For all these mistakes I need to change It’s imperative I do Bridge:
It’s time to sever Tomorrow and later From my vocabulary, those words Are damaging these plans Chorus: I don’t wanna die Knowing I didn’t fight Or even try to become The man I need to be And I know there’s grace For all these mistakes I need to change It’s imperative I do
9.
V1: I am here waiting for an answer To ring out as clear as a bell Maybe I am asking too many questions But I figured might as well Chorus: I’m searching for something true To unravel my heart strings Please see me through I’m tired of petty things V2: Don’t wanna be the man Who’s terrified of living and Discovering all there is to see Can’t stay here too long Trying to right every wrong I’ll miss greater opportunities Chorus: I’m searching for something true To unravel my heart strings Please see me through I’m tired of petty things Chorus 2: I give my heart to you It’s all that I can bring But I know you’re true You’ll handle everything
10.
In our search for authenticity We get lost in the crowd Our hearts full of electricity We don’t know if we should live Quiet or loud Am I showing the real me Or am I wearing a mask? Don’t go by what’s in a profile Just be willing to ask Chorus: We all wanna find a purpose That will fill our hearts with love. We have got realize someone’s bridged the gap Between here and what’s above. V2: There’s a light within this darkness That doesn’t shine bright at first But in the desert of an empty heart It’s the only thing that quenches thirst. I can’t put my faith in things That will crumble like the Berlin Wall I must hold on to the ones Who love me even when I fall Chorus: We all wanna find a purpose That will fill our hearts with love. We have got realize someone’s bridged the gap Between here and what’s above. Bridge: Hold strong Breathe deep The battle’s not over But soon you will see You have won A hard earned victory Chorus: We all wanna find a purpose That will fill our hearts with love. We have got realize someone’s bridged the gap Between here and what’s above. In the moments when we’re inconsistent We must persevere We must brave the distance That’ll extinguish all these fears

Title inspiration from the following quote:

"A man must live by his lights and do what little he can and do it as best he can. In this world, goodness is destined to be defeated. But a man must go down fighting. That is the victory. To do anything less is to be less than a man." - The Moviegoer, Walker Percy

LINER NOTES by Drew Granthum:

Every so often, we're lucky enough to catch the beginnings of a movement before it takes place. A period in which we hear or see something special, before it has become widespread, and we take notice, wanting to see how far it goes.

If you're reading these album liner notes, then you've obviouly caught on to this movement. What you are listening to is something never before heard or seen. Chris K. Davidson isn't the typical singer songwriter; there's no bubblegum formulas, no hypersensitive acoustic-rock, none of the exhausted music we are so used to hearing and have come to expect as an audience.

Instead, passion and desire for something higher permeate this work. "Enlightenment Rock" is probably the best way to describe it; just a man striving to be what his Savior has him called to be, the never ending fighting push through to be closer to God. Yet, Chris makes sure his music avoids the simplicity all too often associated with "worship music." Lyrical depth and a broad sound help place this album apart from those standard CCM titles.

Throughout the album, CKD covers all emotions for a human in the midst of a social, mental, and spiritual struggle. There are highs, lows, several questions with few answers, and resolve to hang tough and hold on. Chris has said most of the songs were "letters to [him]self," but it's worth wondering if he knew how much his lyrics can be applied to our own lives in this day and time.

It's too early to call Chris a modern day psalmist, although most of what is on "A Man Must Go Down Fighting" are essentially psalms for the 21st Century. It's also too early to pass judgement on how far he or the album itself will go, but as someone who has known Chris for years, and considers him a friend of the closest degree, I can say this: do not be suprised if you join me in a few years as one who was there when Chris K. Davidson and the epic tendencies of his "Enlightenment Rock" movement first took off.
